I am little late with this, but Corey Lyon, who was thrown out of the Class 3A championship game against Thomas More Prep-Marian, is moving on: From Joanna Chadwick at the Wichita Eagle:“Corey Lyon is moving on. The coach of the Independent football and softball teams has taken the head coaching job at Paris (Texas) Junior College. The Independent softball team finished 25-1 and second in Class 3A, while the football team was 5-4 after going 0-9 his first year and 3-6 his second. Here’s what he had to say:He interviewed at Paris and was offered the job on Thursday. He also was in the running to be hired as an assistant at South Alabama as the hitting coach. He flew there on the Monday after state. Before the decision was made on that position, he was offered the Paris job. He leaves July 1.“It was an extremely tough decision. This is something that’s been a goal of mine since I started coaching, to coach at the college level.” Here are a few more links from the Eagle. Here is HDN’s game story when Lyon had to leave. Talked with several players about this play and head coach Alan Billinger about this play after the fact for another story and here are the players’ comments:Kaylee Hoffman: “(MaKenzie Altman) hit the ball, hit it right between me and the shortstop as I was leading off. The shortstop klnd of got in it, she made an attempt and on the attempt, there was no way that she would have gotten it. She got in my way, so I had to go all the way around her and curve around third, so curving around third really slowed me down in getting home a lot quicker than I could have.He (the umpire) called obstruction, because I think that I would have been safe if I would have made a direct shot from third to home.”Coach Billinger (who coached third base on this play): “If she had the ball, that would have been different … I saw the umpires (makes sign for obstruction), as soon as they pointed, I knew we had obstruction on the shortstop.”
